Helsinki, Finland 14May2015

Finland has been a part of Sweden since 12th century
until 1809 when it was incorporated into Russian Empire.

It was 1917 when the country got independence from Russia.

Welcome to Suomi (Finland in Finish).

It was public holiday today when
we arrived in Helsinki
with 5.5 million population.

The cruise terminal was only 15 minutes away
to the city centre by shuttle bus

 Jean Sibelius was here

Almost everything closed as it was a public holiday
today except a Market in the city centre

 Uspenski Cathedral

The Senate Square and the Cathedral

 The Esplanade Park

 Esplanade Park

 Stockmann Department Store

 Helsinki Central Railway Station

Obviously, this is where the last scene of movie Dr. Zhivago was shot.
When Dr. Zhivago saw long lost Lara from a tram,
got off and died when he was running after her.

 Kamppi chapel of silence

Temppeliaukio Church aka Rock Church is located in the city centre
Rock Church was built in the middle of Rock
after excavation into this huge Rock (1969)

We had nice lunch in this cafe on the Esplanade
