Rome is a little bit more than one hour away
either by train or bus from this port
Civitavecchia.
After short ride from the ship,
complimentary shuttle bus dropped us
to the edge of town.
We teamed up with our good old friend
Martha from Boston
whom we have known for more than 10 years
through numerous world cruises.
Today, three of us decided to stay in town
rather than taking a train to Rome
where we visited and stayed many times.
Lovely to walk around cobble stoned alleys
in the old part of town under the Spring sun.
A local market was interesting to nosey about
with all sort of fresh vegetables,
salami and cheese...
We found few restaurants on nice promenade
at seaside not far from the train station.
One of them is packed with familiar faces.
Friends from the ship as well as other
fellow passengers were there, too.
They were all putting their thumbs up which
indicates the food is great!
So, we took a table among them
and ordered few dish for lunch.
Pizza looked very authentic and it was authentic.
They were absolutely right about
the food in this restaurant.

It is almost impossible not to have bad food in Italy
but it is also difficult to find this good food
when you are on the road in a foreign country.
We bumped into Alex who works in a shop on the cruise
on our way back to the ship.
Very friendly young man from Servia
whose plan is to go to South Korea for few years.
It will be a nice bonus if he could find an excellent job there, too.
It turned out to be a very nice day here in Civitavecchia.
Maybe this was all we needed this time
rather than wondering on tourist packed
bustling streets of Rome,
constantly watching pickpockets...
