On our second and last day in St Petersburg was not
as lovely as yesterday with overcast and occasional rain.
But that didn't deter us at all.
We were so ready for today in Pushkin.
Magnificent Amber room in Catherine Palace
and Golden Fountain in Peterhof were waiting for us!
Church of St John Chesme church (Pink Church)
is also one of our extra request.
A friend of ours told us not to miss it
and it is on our way to Pushkin
where Catherine Palace is located.
I had to google the photo of this church
and showed it to Anna to recognise.
Abviously, locals don't call it Pink Church. LOL
Arriving in Catherine Palace, Pushkin, south of St Petersburg.
A conductor of this band asked us where we are from.
Then, they started playing Waltzing Matilda as we were walking by...
How lovely!
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!
A statue of Pushkin,
Russia's famous poet
who got shot and died of
his last duel.
Front gate of Catherine Palace that in not in use
With Anna, our wonderful tour guide in front of the palace
A glimpse of Amber room behind the door
where photograph is prohibited.
It is absolutely beautiful and
incredible work of art
from amber all over the room
includes ornament carvings of the walls,
ceiling and furnitures!
It was already lunch time after few hours of
magnificent Catherine Palace
and it was raining like cats and dogs
while we were in the car driving to a restaurant.
Luckily, rain stopped when we arrived in for our lunch.
We requested Anna to take us to authentic
Russian restaurant for today as well.
Anna and Slava were so nice and lovely people
we loved them already.
Podvorye (Coach House) is the name of this restaurant
Podvorye in Russian
I said to this waiter that he reminds me of Lenin
and he laughed and said that to Anna in Russian
that is actually his nickname. LOL
beetroot salad
herring
potato salad
Russian traditional folk songs performed in the restaurant
We ordered three different Russian Piroshki
with potato, beef and mushroom.
All of dish were very nice
and the winner goes to Piroshki.
Absolutely delicious!
Strongly recommended when in St Petersburg and Pushkin.
