Pireus is the gateway port for Athens
where we have been to many times.
There was one sea day in between this Greek port
and our last port Ashdod, Israel.
HoHo(Hop on Hop off) buses were
waiting for the passengers
right at the pier where
our cruise ship docked.
We took a train to Athens last time
and we remember well how far it can be
from the port to the nearest train station.
It was about half an hour walk then.
This time, our ship docked
further away from the station.
We grabbed a red bus as it was ready to leave.
Sharyn, our dear friend from Sydney
joined the cruise for 3 weeks from Dubai
decided to come with us today.
So, it is going to be a nice and special day.
Acropolis Museum
There was a nice cafe with outdoor terrace
of the museum with magnificent view of Parthenon
It is always pleasant to walk around Plaka
especially when Spring sunshine is lovely.
So many cafe and restaurant
as well as souvenir and jewellery shop owners
look desperately want our money
to survive their businesses.
But, it appears to be a lot quieter than
our last visit a couple of years ago.
It was a short walk to Syntagma square
from the museum and Plaka.

We decided to have a quick lunch.
Local preferably.
But, obviously, we were in a wrong area for it.
We could not find any!
We were tired of our feet and hungry.
It would be another half an hour to find an area
with full of eateries with local flare.
So, we just walked into a cafe in front us.
It happened to be a French one.
Croque monsieur!
It was quite nice!
Would have been nicer if
those smokers outside at the bar
didn't blow it to inside where we sat.
